A 12-year-old girl in suburban Kansas City is facing felony charges after she made a gun with her fingers, according to the Kansas City Star.

According to a source familiar with the incident, a classmate asked the girl if she could kill five people in the class, who would they be.

The girl responded by making a gun shape with her fingers and pointed it at four classmates before pretending to shoot herself.

The girl was taken to the principal's office because of the incident and that's where a school resource officer recommended she be arrested. She was hauled away in handcuffs.

Court documents in the case state the girl:

"Unlawfully and feloniously communicated a threat to commit violence, with the intent to place another, in fear, or with the intent to cause the evacuation, lockdown or disruption in regular, ongoing activities."

She was detained by police and released to her mother.

Jon Cavanaugh, the girl's grandfather told the Kansas City Star:

"I think that this is something that probably could have been handled in the principal's office and got completely out of hand. She was just mouthing off. I'm really worried about my granddaughter's future."

Cavanaugh says the girl had no access to any guns and had no real intent on hurting anyone. He also says his granddaughter could face a year in a juvenile detention center if convicted.

School spokesperson David Smth stood by the decision saying:

"I might not have anything in my hand but I might be so clear that the individual definitely feels threatened."

The girl is due in court on Tuesday.
