Test results on 10 sickly passengers on the Emirates jet from Dubai that landed at Kennedy Airport came back positive for the flu, official said.
Eric Phillips, a spokesman for Mayor de Blasio, said some of the other tests conducted on Emirates Flight 203 passengers came back inconclusive for other viruses. Those tests would be repeated Thursday morning, he said.
"All 10 patients will be kept in the hospital as a precaution until we know those final results," Phillips said.
Shortly after the beleaguered plane landed about 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, reports were that as many as 100 people had been sickened. But that numbers was revised downward as the day progressed.
The final official number from Wednesday of ill patients was 19. Ten were admitted to Jamaica Hospital while nine more declined medical attention.
Sick passengers vomited in the Airbus A-380's bathrooms during the 14-hour flight. All 549 passengers and crew were temporarily quarantined on the JFK tarmac as a result.
"People were coughing and spreading germs," passenger Erin Sykes, 36, of Manhattan said Wednesday. "It was everywhere. . . . I would say say a good 50% in economy class were sick. The people behind me, I could literally feel (them) coughing."
Rapper Vanilla Ice happened to be on the plane and posted to social media when the jet landed.
"So I just landed in New York coming back from Dubai and now I'm stuck on the runway with like 1000 police, ambulances, fire trucks," Ice said via Twitter, including a short video clip of the many emergency vehicles at the airport. "This is crazy."
