ATLANTA, Georgia - A domestic dispute turned deadly Monday morning when an Atlanta man was shot and killed.

Police said a man accused of attacking a woman at her home 1200 block of Greenwich Street killed himself after a police foot chase.

Atlanta Police officers responded to the domestic disturbance report around 9 a.m.

"Officers arrived to see the suspect running out the back of the house," Atlanta Police Maj. Keith Meadows told the AJC.

"The suspect shot in the air and told police to back off," Meadows said.

Police said witnesses saw the man, who has not been identified, put his gun to his head and fire.

Police fired twice at the man, Meadows said.

The man was hit three times, once in the head, once in the buttocks and once in the leg, police said.

Meadows said police had responded to several times during the night to incidents at the house.

Neighbors said the man came to the woman's home in the morning with a gun and broke out a front window.

A neighbor, Embry Malone, was walking his dogs when he heard the first gunshot.

"Seconds later, I heard two more shots," Malone said.

He questioned the police synopsis of events, however.

"There are definitely two sides to this story," Malone.
