LUTHERSVILLE, Georgia - The Luthersville police chief has been arrested on rape and other charges.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Chief David Yates faces charges of rape, violation of oath of office, false imprisonment and false imprisonment under color of legal process.
Warrants also have been obtained for the arrest of Luthersville police Officer Jason Hardagree on charges of violation of oath of office and influencing a witness.
The GBI says both men have turned themselves in to the Meriwether County Sheriff's Office.
The rape and false imprisonment charges resulted from an alleged sexual assault on a female resident of Luthersville on Aug. 24.
The charge of false imprisonment under color of legal process resulted from an Aug. 17 incident in which the same woman was taken into custody by Luthersville police at the direction of Yates.
The charges against Hardagree are a result of his actions during the investigation.
Luthersville is 42 miles southwest of Atlanta.
