CHICAGO - Authorities say it may take several weeks to determine if a Taser shock killed Gefery Johnson, but his family filed a lawsuit yesterday claiming police used "excessive force."
The 42-year-old Chicago man died after Chicago police shocked him with a Taser during a confrontation last week.
Police say they were called to the home of Johnson's mother after she complained her son was damaging property.
Police say Johnson was violating a protective order by being at the home and resisted arrest. Officers shocked him twice with a Taser gun and used pepper spray to try to subdue him.
Johnson was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly afterward.
The lawsuit says Johnson was "non-combative and cooperating" with police during the incident.
